January 27, 2007:  FFIC NIGHT AT THE GRIFFINS HOCKEY GAME

Meet Jim Paek, assistant coach of the Grand Rapids Griffins, for a pre-game reception, and then stay to enjoy the game!  Jim was born in Korea but moved to Canada at the age of one, where he learned to play hockey.  Jim became the first Korean-born player in the NHL, and the first to win a Stanley Cup (while playing for the Pittsburgh Penguins).  He was a teammate of Wayne Gretsky and Mario Lemieux.  Jim is part of a multicultural family, and his family enjoys celebrating both Korean and American holidays.

*September 20, 2007: "TEEN ADOPTEES FACE THEIR WORLD!"

Thursday, 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Presented by Ron Nydam PhD and a panel of adult adoptees.  The teenage years can be challenging for any child.  The challenges are often magnified for adopted teens who struggle to define their identity often without the basic knowledge of where they came from. This workshop will address the issues and challenges associated with teen adoptees and look at ways of overcoming some of those challenges.  Fee is $5 per adult and childcare is available for $2 per child.  Per-registration is required by calling Adoptive Family Support Network at (616)458-7945.

September 24, 2007: FFIC Educational Event

Jan Coates, DO will be presenting on Potential Emotional and Behavioral Issues Faced by Adopted Children and Families.  Jan is a member of FFIC and the parent of 3 children adopted from South Korea.  She is a MSU Medical School graduate and specializes in child and adolescent psychiatry.

*October 18, 2007: "RAISING AN ABUSED OR NEGLECTED CHILD: TOP 10 THINGS A PARENT NEEDS TO KNOW"

October 20, 2007: FFIC HAYRIDE

Saturday, 5:30-7:30

Join us for this fun family event!  We will enjoy a hayride together, followed by a bonfire and hot dog roast.  Cost is $5.00 for ages 11 & up and $3.00 for ages 3-11.  RSVP by October 10 to Amy Bronkema.

*November 10, 2007: "COUPLES COMMUNICATION AND FAMILY COHESION IN FOSTERING AND ADOPTING"

As part of the Michigan State University "Marriage and Adoption Project", Judy and John McKenzie will be offering an introductory program designed to enhance communication and family cohesion for couples and parenting partners.  Cost is $15 per household.  No children, please.  Pre-registration is required.  For reservations or information contact Adoptive Family Support Network at (616)458-7945.

November 10, 2007: KALAMAZOO RUSSIAN FESTIVAL

Saturday, 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.

Celebrate 15 years of the partnership between Kalamazoo, MI and Pushkin, Russia.  Festival features folk music, a puppet show, lectures, art gallery, vendors, Russian food and more.  $8 adults, $4 students.  For more information visit www.russianfestival.org.

*November 16, 2007: ADOPTION CELEBRATION 2007

Friday, 5:30-8:00 p.m.

Join adoptive and foster families for an evening of celebration, fun and food at the Grand Rapids Children's Museum. Admission is $10 per family (up to 5 family members) or $15 (more than 5 family members) and includes admission to the museum, food, beverage and entertainment.  Pre-registration is required.  For reservations or information contact Adoptive Family Support Network at (616)458-7945.

*November 17, 2007: "CHANGE A LIFE--CHANGE THE WORLD"

Saturday, 6:00 p.m.

In celebration of National Adoption Awareness Month, Adoption Associates, Inc. along with Ridgewood Christian Reformed Church's Adoption Resource Committee will be hosting a fundraising banquet to raise financial support for orphans worldwide.  The evening will feature a presentation by the Children of the World International Children's Choir, include dinner and dessert and conclude with a short discussion on how those in attendance can help to change the world through a financial gift to orphaned children in need. *November 17, 2007: HOPE FOR ORPHANS

Saturday, 6:00-9:00 p.m.

Presented by Bethany Christian Services.  Freaturing Christian author, consultant and president of Children's Hope Chest, Tom Davis. Learn how you and your church can partner with Bethany to care for orphans.  This is a no-charge event and includes a strolling dinner and program. For info and to RSVP by November 2, call (616)224-7442.

*November 17 & 18, 2007: MICHIGAN HEART GALLERY

The Michigan Heart Gallery is a traveling photographic exhibit of Michigan children in the foster care system who are waiting for a permanent family of their own through adoption.  The Heart Gallery is used to increase awareness about adoption and to recruit families for these children.  For more information on the MI Heart Gallery, visit www.miheart.org.

December 8, 2007: FFIC HOLIDAY PARTY

Saturday, 10:00 a.m.-Noon

Please join us for holiday fun, fellowship, crafts and snacks.  Gift bags will be provided for all children.  This event is FREE, no need to RSVP.  Please consider bringing a donation which will be collected and given to Michigan adoption agencies who will deliver them to children they serve all over the world.  Contact Cheryl Wyma for more information and to help.
