ADOPTION SUPPORT GROUPS/ORGANIZATIONS:

Bethany Christian Services AD-OPTS Program Specialized therapy services for pre and post adoptive children addressing past trauma issues and helping children to build skills and move forward in their lives.  This program helps children and parents to understand how trauma has affected the child's life, increase their capacity to form healthy attachments to others, develop healthy expression and regulation of emotions, and build personal competencies.  Available program locations include:  Holland (616)396-0623, Grand Rapids (616)224-7617, Kalamazoo (269)372-2562 and Fremont (231)924-3390. 

Chinese Association of West Michigan (CAWM) is a non-profit organization serving the socio-cultural needs of the growing Chinese community and reaching out to the broader communities in the West Michigan area, including the Greater Grand Rapids, Holland, Muskegon, Grand Haven, etc. Saturday Chinese language school, special events and meetings throughout the year.  www.wmchineseassociation.org

Chinese Culture Group of Greater Grand Rapids  www.ccgggr.org.  E-mail:  info@ccgggr.org.  Meets the 1st Tuesday of every month at 6:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church in Rockford, MI.  An educational and cultural group for families of adopted Chinese children (pre- and post-adoption are welcome).

Families for Russian and Ukrainian Adoption (FRUA)--Michigan Chapter  www.frua-michigan.org  Support and activities for those who have adopted or are adopting from Russia, Ukraine and neighboring countries.  Based on the East side of Michigan.

GIFTS (Giving International Families Transitional Support) A support group to help families of internationally adopted children.  Meets second and fourth Thrusdays of the month at 1338 Baldwin in Jenison, MI.  For more information contact Lori at ltroop@earthlink.net.

Lakeshore Chinese Culture Group  Meets the 4th Friday of the month at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Grand Haven.  6:30-7:00 p.m. is a social time with the group meeting from 7:00-8:00 p.m.  Contact Mary Moore at mmoore@co.ottawa.mi.us for more information.

Panda Pals is for children who were adopted from China and attending 3rd grade through junior high. The focus is to provide the opportunity to learn about their birth country and culture in an age appropriate and fun environment where it is safe to explore adoption and family issues, discuss and develop skills to handle discrimination, develop healthy peer relationships, and make a difference in their home country.  Click here for more information. 

SAFE (Singles Adopting from Everywhere):  West Michigan group of single adoptive parents.  Members are mostly from the Grand Rapids area and have adopted children from around the world.  If you are interested, please join their MISAFE Yahoo group and introduce yourself. 

Transracial Support Group  Meetings are held the 2nd Thursday from 7:00-8:00 p.m.  No meetings in November and December.  Contact Staci Sytsma (616)455-0225 for location and more information.
